The Story Behind Pasadena Handyman TX

Pasadena began in 1893 as a townsite on the coastal prairie southeast of Houston, named by its founder, John H. Burnett, for the green growth that reminded him of Pasadena, California. After the 1900 storm, Clara Barton's Red Cross sent more than a million strawberry plants to local farmers, and for a generation this was strawberry country, which is why the city still throws a Strawberry Festival every spring. Then the Houston Ship Channel came, the refineries and plants lined up along its south bank, and the town grew from a few thousand people in 1940 to more than twenty thousand by 1950. Most of today's Pasadena was built in the decades that followed: blocks of postwar frame and brick ranch houses north of Spencer Highway, 1960s and 1970s subdivisions spreading south toward Fairmont Parkway, and newer brick two-stories and townhomes out toward the Beltway and Armand Bayou. It is now a city of roughly 150,000 people, the second largest in Harris County.

Those houses share the same conditions. The ground is heavy expansive clay that swells after a wet spell and shrinks hard in a drought, so slabs and pier-and-beam floors move, and doors, trim and drywall show it. Summers are long, hot and humid, with mildew on shaded siding and grime from the plants and the highway on everything else. Hurricane season runs from June through November, and Ike, Harvey and Beryl each left their own list of repairs behind, while the 2021 freeze reminded everyone how exposed our pipes are. The result is a steady stream of small jobs that pile up because the bigger contractors are booked for roofs, foundations and remodels and aren't interested in a sticking door or a dripping tub spout.

That's the work we're here for. We're a local Pasadena outfit, general liability insured, and we'd rather earn your next call than stretch this one. We quote clearly before we start, work through your list in one organized visit, and build for this climate: allowing for movement in doors and drywall, keeping water out at every seam, and using hardware that stands up to humidity and wind. Because our licensed electricians and plumbers are part of the crew, a ceiling fan, a fixture swap or a new toilet gets wrapped up during the same visit as everything else. One call covers it, and that's how a small local operation earns a place in your phone.
